Changes to my Study Programme

When I think with what I am studying and where I studying, I think that I am in the best place in my country to study dentistry, be called by a “University of Chile’s dentist” is good, but do people think all the sacrifice that we do everyday to be titled? Being in university is not too easy, I think that is not good sleep less than 6 hours every days, being tired all day, all week, all the semester, study all day, travel hours to arrive at university. I think that the workload and the length of studies have to be less.

But without taking about this, I think the University of Chile is the best, has an excellent professional training.

Taking about the curriculum, I think that is too early to work with patients just in 3^rd year of university.

All the years, we have to pay a millionaire to have our work instruments, but what if a person doesn’t have the money to buy the materials? He or she get the minimum note, or worst, has to suspend the studies, then work to have the money and then enter again to university the next year.

The teaching methods are good, but the length of studies is horrible.

“Stress” is the most spoken word on university, I can’t imagine a person without stress in university, even the people that lives near of university and have more time to study.

In this country, we have so many things to improve the education, but something is stopping it…

Summer Holidays

All of my summer holidays are the same, my parents leave me alone in home with my brother, they go to their plot in January and February, my brother stay here working and me training, and when my trainer leave me free I go to the plot on south, it is in Lican Ray, which is a beautiful please, pacific, but in the summer there goes a lot of people and it is transformed to an unpleasant please, because it is small and in summer there is the half of people that lives in Santiago there, so we stay at plot on weekends (it is 5km from Lican Ray) and go to Lican Ray on week.

I always travel with my family and sometimes with my friends, I invite them to go with me for holidays.

In summer we stay in the plot, because there is some many things to do there, we go to the mountain, biking, swim in the pool, play sports, or just lay down and do nothing while we are hearing the sound of the nature. Some people thinks that these activities are so boring, some people prefers go to the beach, go to parties all days, being drunk all nights and bla bla bla, I like to go parties, but not like that, I prefer my plot. When it rains we go to thermal springs, and when it is sunny we go to Calafquen or Villarrica lake.

I had never worked on holidays, I make money selling pastry sweet, and people love it. I don´t study on holidays, I forget studies in summer, I just enjoy this 2 months of relaxing.

I would love to go to Hawaii, that’s some of my dreams.

Post Graduate Studies

Hi everyone! Few years ago an option to me was to study medicine and then specialize on psychiatry, but my first option was dentistry. I don´t know what I’m going to do in the future yet, I like Pediatric Dentistry, Maxillofacial Surgery, or take a holder of a diploma in Public Health, these are my options. If I’d have the opportunity to study abroad, I’d didn’t think twice, but obviously it depends the country. I would like to study part-time, to have more time to do others things.

Maxillofacial Surgery is the hardest postgraduate course to take, because of the exigence and it takes 5 years.

I think take a holder of a diploma in Public Health is so good to know more about other things that are not relationated with the body, are relationated with the administration of our system health, of what is back with what we are doing with our job.

Another different future studies I would like to take is study music, specific composition, I know how to play some instruments, but I would like to know more about composition, how to make a song, etc. Or just to be a music teacher, I love kids, so I would love to teach kids about this beautiful art.

Someone I would like to meet

Someone I would like to meet is Usain Bolt, I think he is a good athlete, I admire him so much. He is from Jamaica, and if you didn’t know, he is the fastest man in world. If I could meet him, I would ask him how much he trained to be the fastest runner of the world, how many hours he trained, what his habits, his routines were.

It is not too easy just train, then go to the competition and just win the first place, there are so many hours of training, I know because I play sports.

I wait to see him in Olympics Games or in athletics tournaments, I think he is fantastic. But, in this year he suffered an injury in his leg during the competition, I was impressed by the situation, but after that I watch on TV that he was in a party the previous day of the competition, and I thought “How could he risk his competition just for a party?”. Maybe, he thought that it was just a party, but no one thinks about what is happening to your body, and then it happens what happened.

He disappointed me, I admire him so much, and seeing that he lost a competition because he was in a party makes me feel a little sad and angry.

Well, he broke a lot of records, so I still admire him.

My Future Job

Talking about my future job, I would like to work with kids, I like Pediatric Dentistry, why this? Because I think the future of oral health is in them, because dentists can resolve oral problems all days, all life, but is it better if we anticipate it? If we teach kids about oral health, they will be better in future like the current adults.

I’m studying dentistry and I would love to work with kids. 

I had a really bad experience with a kid with cavities: when I was a kid I went to school on school bus and I always sat aside of a kid that had a lot of cavities, and his breath was horrible, he was 6 years old when I met him. Another experience I had with my cousin, was he had so many cavities too, he started to have them at the age of 4. Imagine that! How can a little kid have a mouth like that! Something is wrong and it is, first the education, and second the cost of a dentistry consultation.

Another reason is related to the fear that kids have to “the dentist”, sometimes this is just for the fear that people or even their parents give them to dentists, sometimes they say “if you don’t do this I will take you to the dentist”, like it was the worst place in world,  and the dentists have to take that fear away, show them that it is not like their parents or people say, and obviously it is something difficult, because dentists work in their mouth and do things that are not pleasant to people, and imagine the kids that are scared of needles!

So, there are a lot of reasons to work with kids.

Election Day

When my parents tell me what happened in dictatorship I feel amazed and sad, I think how a person can do that horrible things. Election is the moment when you decide which is going to be the person that will lead you country, or your district, but now days everyone knows that there is a lot of lies on the campaigns, do you think if that person is going to do what he/she is saying. So who can we trust? There is a uncertainty of if this person is going to do well this work, are we going to be benefited? Or this is just another instance to a person to abuse of us, to lie to people, and make of this country a worst place?

Of course I am going to vote on this election, we have to decide, everyone, it’s a responsibility that we have with our country, with ourselves. I think that someone who wants to be in a public position should think in other selves and not just in himself or herself, he or she has to be emphatic. And finally I wouldn´t like to get involved in politics, because it is not of my interest.

A Day to Remember

I was 8 or 9 years old, I was so nervous and I was shivering. My first time on a stage, playing guitar.

That year was fashionable "Amango", a Chilean band, so we play a song of them, I don't remember the name of the song, but I remember that when we started to play, all teenagers on the public started to sing the song

To all the presentations in a stage is always the same situation, you are so nervous at the beginning and while you are playing the nervousness go away and you play with trust and you enjoy it.

The people who were there are the same persons that I play music now: my best friend and some of the guys of my class (the group was the school band). The teacher of the band was my school music teacher, I learned how to play guitar and drums because of him.

I looked my mom while I was playing and she had a smile from ear to ear and it made me so happy.

So, at that day I started to beeing in a stage, all the years in school I played once at less, for a little concert, for "the 18", for school events, etc. And university won't be the exception.
